Greta Thunberg Essay: Her Speech and Personality

Every year, TIME names the person who wielded the most influence in the previous 12 months as the “Person of the Year.” This person should most affect the news and our lives and embodied what was important about the year, for better or for worse.

These days Greta Thunberg is gaining more popularity, and recently Times magazines named her as “Person of the Year.” I completely agree with this selection. This essay will discuss why she is the best one for this decision.

There is some likely explanation for this pickup. Firstly, she is a teenage girl that is brave with great determination and perseverance. She has been skipping school for about 16 months and camping out in front of the Swedish Parliament just to fight against climate change. By this selection, other teenagers encourage to do a similar activity and can be influenced.

Secondly, she chose an important issue for discussion that may influence not only humans but also every creature in the world. There is no doubt about climate change, and our activity is driving and accelerating it. Each day its threat becomes clearer, which will endanger the survival of our species. This is not something for the next generation but our lifetimes and our children (LEONARD, E.G. MBOERA, et al.; Montgomery).

Finally, she could persuade leaders, from mayors to Presidents on environmental injustice, and cause a global attitudinal shift for urgent change. She has offered a moral clarion call to those who are willing to act and hurled shame on those who are not (Bulgarella).

In conclusion, according to the points mentioned above, I agree with TIME that chose Greta Thunberg as “Person of Year.” More attention should be focused on this issue to have a safer place to live. But we can all respond to make the difference, and the time to do so is now. Without urgent action, the future is ruined.
